13th-14th June..The Great Salt Lake....Heber City to Jensen, Utah...

After a nice drive through the mountains on I-80 but slightly stressy around Salt lake City we arrived at The Salt lake State Park Marina ready for our coffee and cookie !!!
As ever they have a very good visitors centre and staff, loads of info and a really good video on a loop of the history of The Great Salt Lake including myths and legends, one being their very own "Nessy"
Rather hazy today, maybe as it was chilly overnight but already high 80's....
It was interesting to discover that there are several islands in the lake and most at some time used for ranching by the early settlers....
It is the largest lake west of the Mississippi River and also one of the saltiest bodies of water on earth.....
In the mid 1800s this area was Black Rock Resort with bathhouses, a brewery and boardwalk all long gone...
Part of the canal for the main salt mine....
Interesting history to this building...this is the Saltair Concert Venue...
In 1893 the first Saltair was built as a recreational bathing resort, by 1920 drawing a half a million visitors a year....it burnt down in 1925 and was replaced by Saltair 2 in 1926 but was plagued by economic downturn, drought fire and flood and Saltair 3 was built in the early 1980s but just a few months after completion the lake level rose and the facility was severely flooded...in 1993 it reopened as a concert venue and so far so good !!!!
Opposite the Salt Lake is the refinery for the Bingham Canyon Copper Mine...the open-pit mine, the largest man made excavation in the world, is in the Oquirrh Mountains 26 miles from here...
The ore is made into a "sludge" that is piped to the refinery...
And back home to Heber City and farewells to our fellow Cedar Creek owners.....
Thursday 14th June and time to move east on the US40 to Jensen, Utah...
Sorry can't remember quite where this is but nice lake...
Coming down from the Wasatch Mountain Range (8020ft)
Sadly lots of roadkill, deer and elk....
From alpine scenery to red rocks in 100 miles !!!
The intrepid travellers arrived at our home for the next 2 nights at Outlaw Trail RV Park in Jensen and ready to relax when clouds gather then suddenly the wind gets up and we have a mini type tornado.....rather scary and speaking to the lovely RV Park owner she was scared too !!!!
The temperature dropped from 94F to 79 but within a short time after the "storm" back up to 87F and blue sky again...
We had planned a day off tomorrow but learn there is quite a bit to see in this area...
For now until the next post..
Bye for now..
The Slightly Shaken but Not Stirred Campers....
