15th & 16th June Flaming Gorge, Red Canyon Overlook Utah...

As I mentioned in the last post we had planned a day off today but on great advise from our friend Bill we head to Flaming Gorge Dam & Visitor Centre...
Our route was US191 a scenic mountain route that many travellers take to Wyoming and Yellowstone NP but we  just travel the 60 miles to the dam...
From the dam we go further north to the spectacular Red Canyon overlook...
Stunning views looking down 1700 ft to the surface of the Green River...
Even though at 7,720ft elevation it's incredibly hot....no complaints !!
Would have loved to do a boat trip through the gorge....
We had a lovely chat with the two state park volunteers in the visitors centre then had our lunch sandwich overlooking the gorge...doesn't get much better..
Back down to Jensen and some housekeeping....fuelled up our truck for the road tomorrow and a top up of grocery supplies then back home to the clouds forming and the wind increasing and thinking hey ho but not a repeat of yesterday...maybe this little sapling will have the strength of the early settlers....
16th June...
Some rain overnight, this area is suffering from a lack of winter snow and spring/summer rain...

Todays journey is quite a short one at 112 miles and not a lot to report on the blog....we did see antelope and deer and happily not roadkill as we have seen over the past week.....
We crossed over into Colorado at Dinosaur just 20 miles from Jensen but missed getting a photo of the welcome to CO sign !!!!
We did pass through the town of Maybel (elevation 5900ft) whose slogan is "Where the West is Still Wild"
Craig Colorado for an overnight stop....
The sunset rainbow after a short shower...
Tomorrow we head up through the Rockies to Grand Lake...
Until the next post....
Yorkieman and Mrs Blogger....

  1. And the photos keep on coming.... Fabulous, you are going to miss all this you know! All well here, consumed by World Cup fever, England win one game against a nation of half a million and everyone is getting excited. I suspect the game on Thursday against Belgium will re-introduce a bit of sanity, still I will watch it. We are off to Norfolk on Friday for a few days, certainly enjoying the weather, this week promised to be a stunner
