Great Basin National Park...Sunday 10th June....

The strong gusty winds have died down this morning as we head out just 6 miles to The Great Basin National Park visitor centre....
Although called The Great Basin it is not one but many basins separated by mountain ranges alternating in seemingly endless geographic rhythm !!
The basins range from California's Sierra Nevada to Utah's Wasatch Mountains...

There are caves and many hiking trails but we do the 12 mile scenic drive to the Wheeler Peak Summit Overlook...we have an elevation change of 5,000ft from 5,000ft at Baker to 10,000ft at the summit overlook...
Wheelers Peak is 13,063ft and we met a lovely fit young man from Connecticut who had hiked from the parking lot to the top and back down....
The streams and creeks are running fairly fast with the snow melt...
Pretty "spring" flowers seen at one of the many viewpoints on route to the summit overlook...
We had planned the Bristlecone Grove hike but opt for the shorter trail, 3 mile round hike to Teresa Lake as both feeling the effects of the altitude...
Still plenty of snow about.....
We do find a few Bristlecone pine trees on route, they live 2,000 to 3,000 years at the higher elevation (making them much older than the giant Sequoia) but the trees on the lower slopes like this one live "only" for 300 to 400 years !!!
Our destination and the beautiful and peaceful Teresa Lake....
Well worth the hike....
Yorkieman enjoying the peace and tranquility....
Tomorrow we will head out east to Heber City....
Until the next post...
The Peaceful Campers....
